World ́s first recyclable, solar-electric boat in production
2021 sees the launch of the world’s most sustainable boat from award winning La Bella Verde. The ‘LBV35’ is a cutting edge collaboration between La Bella Verde and renowned boating experts Norbert Sedlacek and Marion Koch from ‘Innovation Yachts’.
La Bella Verde, often referred to as ‘LBV’ – are pioneers of the green boating movement. Having designed, developed and introduced a fleet of award winning solar powered, emission free vessels to the oceans since launching in Ibiza 2014. Starting from humble beginnings – consisting of just two captains and a marine biologist, LBV has evolved into a team of twenty, and ultimately the next chapter in its technological advancement.
Designed For Charters – The Worlds Most Sustainable Fleet
The LBV35 is specifically designed for charters, making it perfect for resorts and holiday destinations. Allowing groups and individual tourists to enjoy the world’s natural beauty without polluting or damaging local ecosystems.
Maarten, one of the Founders, Comments :
“There are currently around 20 million recreational vessels in the EU & USA; all built with highly toxic and nonrecyclable materials. All of these boats will end up on landfills or on the bottom of the sea within the next 10-20 years. It’s time for change.”
Having previously focused on reducing emissions by implementing solar-electric propulsion technology, LBV35 instead pivots towards the materials, construction and lifespan. The LBV35 is a truly 100% recyclable composite boat, built from the ground up – where even the moulds are made of fully recyclable material.
In addition to this, and in one of the most ambitious developments in tackling the highly unsustainable nature of the nautical leisure sector to date – La Bella Verde have committed to a sustainable ‘loop’ recycling model. In simple terms, LBV will buy back the composite materials of your LBV35 and reuse them for future builds. Demonstrating how a full circle economy approach can be applied to the boating industry.
The LBV35 will be produced in one of France’s most prestigious harbours – ‘Les Sables d’Olonne’ – home to Norbert Sedlacek’s Innovation Yachts. The collaboration sees Sedlacek’s 30+ years of experience in extreme sailing inform his creation of the rig, sails and overall boat architecture. This, in turn, provides the LBV35 with a powerful sailing performance; fast and safe, as well as easy handling for single-handed sailing with a cruising speed of 8-12 knots and a top speed of 22 knots.
Norbert Comments
“After 11 years of continuous development with fully recyclable, high end yacht building materials we are happy to become the home” of the new LBV35.”
The effort to achieve the optimum sailing specification has also gone into the aesthetic design with an open deck, innovative hull-design and silent electric motors create an unprecedented sailing experience. Through this collaboration and the application of cutting edge technology and materials, LBV are truly revolutionizing the way that boats are built.
