Beginners Guide To Instagram Stories
1. Getting GIFy with it!
Adding photos and videos to your stories is standard practice these days so start exploring all the other features at the bottom of your screen. The Boomerang feature, for example, allows you to create a quick, looped video similar to the popular GIF. Keeping your content and uploads exciting by testing new media formats is essential, not just for engagement but holding onto your audience also.
2. Shout-outs!
Tagging your stories not only connects you with a brand, influencer or customer, it also and more importantly allows you the possibility to cast your net over their following, opening the door to another audience which could gain you more followers.
In each Story, you can tag up to 10 other accounts but less is always more where this is concerned so choose the brands/influencers/customers you want to tag wisely! When you mention someone in Stories, they’ll see a notification that says they’ve been tagged and they’ll also be sent a direct message with a preview of the Story. They just have to click one simple instruction to add your story to theirs and if they do – voilla! – you’ve just won yourself another 15 seconds of advertising fame!
How to tag?
Choose the Aa icon, type the @ symbol and then type the username. A menu will show up on the bottom of the screen where you can choose the account you want to tag. It’s important that you choose the user from the pop-up menu; if you just write @username, it won’t actually create a tag. You know you did it right if the tag is underlined.
3. Play with Selfie Stickers
The clue is in the title! Yes, it’s as simple as taking a mini-selfie and placing it all over your instagram story but seriously it looks super effective and if you’re looking to inject some light hearted fun to your stories this is a great feature to use.
Here’s how:
1. Take a photo or a video
2. Tap the smiley-face icon in the right corner, just like you do when you want to add a sticker
3. Tap the camera icon in the magic folder and take a selfie
4. Place your selfie sticker wherever you want
Ta-dah!
4. Take the stress out of the Insta Story!
It can be really stressful when you suddenly see something you think would make great content but the pressure of shooting and uploading it perfectly to Insta Story there and then is just too much – especially if you’re walking the dog or have just done the coffee run! So, why not shoot your content in your camera roll? This allows you to create your story once you are settled, with both hands free making the most of the moment and content you have captured.
